How to Use F2F Translator

1. Select Languages: Choose your source language (what you'll speak) and target language (what you want to hear)
2. Tap to Speak: Click the 🎤 button and speak clearly in your source language
3. View Translation: See the translation appear in the chat history
4. Listen: Click 🔊 on any translation to hear it spoken
5. Swap Languages: Click ⇄ to reverse languages for two-way conversations

Tips for Best Results

• Speak clearly and at a normal pace
• Use Chrome (Desktop/Android) or Safari (Desktop/iOS) for best compatibility
• Grant microphone permissions when prompted
• For better translation quality, consider adding an API key (see API Key Setup)

Why Add an API Key?

By default, F2F Translator uses MyMemory (free). Adding your own API key gives you:

• ✅ Better translation quality
• ✅ More language support
• ✅ Faster translations
• ✅ No rate limits

Google Translate API

💰 Cost: ~$20 per 1 million characters (~500,000 words)

1. Go to Google Cloud Console →
2. Create a new project (or select an existing one)
3. Click "Enable APIs and Services"
4. Search for "Cloud Translation API" and enable it
5. Go to "Credentials" → "Create Credentials" → "API Key"
6. (Optional but recommended) Click "Restrict Key" → Select "Cloud Translation API"
7. Copy the API key
8. Return to F2F Translator settings and paste it in the Google API key field
9. Click "Save"

DeepL API

💰 Free: 500,000 characters/month | Pro: $5-25/month

1. Go to DeepL Pro API →
2. Click "Sign up for free" (or choose a Pro plan)
3. Complete the registration
4. After logging in, go to "Account" → "API Keys"
5. Copy your authentication key
6. Return to F2F Translator settings and paste it in the DeepL API key field
7. Click "Save"

🔄 Auto-Switch Languages

When enabled, the app automatically swaps source and target languages after each translation.

Use case: Perfect for back-and-forth conversations where you alternate between languages.

Example: English → Chinese → (auto-switch) → Chinese → English

🎙️ Auto-Listen Mode

When enabled (requires Auto-Switch), the app automatically starts listening after playing the translation.

Use case: Hands-free conversations - the app keeps listening without manual button presses.

Note: Only works when Auto-Switch is enabled.

🔊 Auto-Play Translation

When enabled (requires Auto-Listen), the app automatically plays the translation voice without clicking 🔊.

Use case: Fully hands-free operation - just speak and listen.

Note: Only works when both Auto-Switch and Auto-Listen are enabled.

🛑 Stop Listening

While the app is listening (showing "🛑 Stop Listening"), you can tap the button to cancel speech recognition.

Tip: Useful if you made a mistake or want to start over.

🎤 Microphone Not Working

Solution:

• Check if your browser has microphone permission granted
• Chrome: Click the 🔒 icon in the address bar → Site settings → Microphone → Allow
• Safari: Safari menu → Settings for This Website → Microphone → Allow
• Try refreshing the page after granting permission

🌐 Translation Not Working

Solution:

• Check your internet connection
• Make sure you're speaking clearly and in the selected language
• Try speaking a bit slower or louder
• If using an API key, verify it's entered correctly

📱 App Won't Install

Solution:

• Chrome/Edge: Look for the install icon in the address bar
• Safari (iOS): Tap Share → Add to Home Screen
• Safari (macOS): File → Add to Dock
• Make sure you're using HTTPS (not HTTP)

🔇 No Voice Output

Solution:

• Check your device volume is not muted
• Try clicking the 🔊 button manually on a translation
• Some browsers may require user interaction before playing audio
• Try reloading the page

If none of the above solutions work:

• Try using a different browser (Chrome or Safari recommended)
• Clear your browser cache and cookies
• Check the browser console for error messages (F12 → Console tab)
• Report an Issue
